Fall Gala Guide

What a year 2020 has been, or more like what a year 2020 hasn’t been. I don’t know about you, but this isn’t how we, the team at SA Social Calendar, pictured 2020 to go. We were thinking more along the lines of sequins, flapper outfits, sequins, satin gloves and did we already say sequins? This year was the perfect play on year to wear beautiful and intricate themed outfits to some of the most popular galas, but because of this thing called COVID-19 we are left to make our own dance floor at home. On the bright side, no need for uber and no one will know if you leave the party without your shoes on.

As Fall makes its way, let us update you on which galas have gone virtual and which ones are still moving forward. Remember, now more than ever, these great organizations need your donations and sponsorships. With most of their events that lead into the fall canceled, this is their final attempt to secure funds for the following year.

Hoot @ Home – Hootenanny is now Hoot@Home in 2020 and it is their biggest fundraiser of the year, providing almost one-quarter of their operating budget. We are going to have a virtual blast fundraising this year!

Blue Star Red Dot Sale – This year, there may not be 500 fellow artists and art lovers squeezed in the galleries braving the Texas heat while sipping drinks and adding artwork to their collections, but there will still be a Red Dot Art Sale.

Magdalena House Virtual Gala – Please join the Magdalena House VIRTUALLY for a fun-filled evening of support with auctions & raffle, resident testimonials, and the opportunity to learn more about the vital work at Magdalena House.

Landa Nights Down to Earth – The grounds of Landa Gardens have long been a place for our community to gather, play and escape. 2020 has challenged many of us to get back to our roots. In keeping with the times, they are thrilled to invite you to raise a glass as you all celebrate our love of Landa Gardens in a safe and casual, Down to Earth way. Please join them for a delicious Landa Nights dinner – to go!

38th Annual Zoobilation Ball – San Antonio Zoo continues to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 Outbreak. As they plan for their 38th Zoobilation Ball, they have made the audacious decision to move their gala virtual. We must stay flexible as the current climate evolves, and as the current climate evolves, and as COVID-19 continues to impact our communities.

3rd Annual Kids Zoo Ball – The third Annual Kids Zoo Ball, allows children to take part in the zoo’s mission to inspire people to love, engage with, act for, and protect animals and the places they live through sharing our passion for animal care, education, and conservation.

41st Annual Grand Western Shindig – Shindig is an annual gala event benefiting the children and adults served each day by Mission Road Ministries. This year they have gone virtual.

50th Annual Witte Game Dinner – Join the Witte as they celebrate 50 years of the Witte Game Dinner with an unforgettable experience for the history books. They are taking it back to their roots, hosting an authentic South Texas ranch experience under the stars, complete with wild game, campfires, and live Texas country music by Robert Earl Keen. All in the Witte’s Zachry Family Acequia Garden or from the comfort of your home.

As much as change is unwanted, we are excited to see these organizations overcome this with resilience and adapt to this challenge while make the most of the situation with their galas.

Remember to come back for updates from these or new organizations who have given us updates.
