The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas (CBCST),
closing in on its 22nd anniversary this upcoming May, held its 18th annual Hearts in Harmony Gala this past February 28th, offering
guests both a lovely dinner and a truly colossal auction made possible by dozens
of sponsors and more than 150 generous donors.
With none other than Mayor Ron Nirenberg and wife Erika
Prosper Nirenberg serving as the guests of honor alongside guest speaker
Shannon Turner, participants dined on braised short ribs from the RK Group
before bidding on items that ranged from local gift certificates to one-of-a-kind
art pieces to a weeklong stay at a Cinnamon Shore beach house in Port Aransas.
Those wishing to participate but a little short on extra spending money also
got the opportunity to sponsor one of the many children the CBCST works with.
As the name implies, the Bereavement Center works to help
children through grief, complete with a multitude of specialized services for
specific cases. Loss at a young age can snowball into misery down the line, and
the help the CBCST staff offers can be literally life-saving. It gaining
support from so many places and from such prominent figures is something to pin
on your wall and look at whenever the world feels cold.
